$avings $pree is a Success

During 2019-2020 academic year, our new $avings $pree program was piloted. This course introduces students in grades 2, 3, and 4 to the concepts of money, saving, and investment. In an interactive way, through games and simulations, participants cover the following topics: what is money, special features of money, savings and compound interest, setting financial goals, savings vs. investments, and stocks and bonds.

The class uses educational, short videos from EconLowDown portal of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, Q&A, discussions, and free online budgeting tools for children. Various fun assessments are used along the way to help students grow their financial literacy skills.

At the completion of this course, students are able to:

(1) Define basic financial literacy concepts.

(2) Explain how to set a financial goal.

(3) Make a concrete plan for reaching a financial goal.

(4) Create a video presentation about a financial concept learned in this class.

"The class seemed exciting and helpful and interesting and I only wish that I could have taken it, too! " -- Danielle, parent

"My twin boys enjoyed the class and we are all looking forward to the next experience." --

Keavy, parent
